Now that we're a relatively safe distance from Michigan's 2008 football season (boo! hiss!) and starting to see headlines about the next one (the other "change we need"?), it seems safe to revisit our old friends back in the Big House.
Somehow we've gotten Aldus completely hooked on "The Victors." Not only do we watch or listen to the following video on youtube ... oh ... some 50 GAZILLION TIMES A DAY because Aldus is continually begging "Hail?" and "Again?", but we also know all the words. Did you know there are whole sections that they don't sing in the stadium?
cultural note: i grew up in a household where university songs were assumed. my parents had them for their korean schools; i had one for undergrad; and "The Victors," of course. in explaining the repeated singing to our dutch friends, they looked at me in what i thought was sympathy... it turns out it was a look of complete disbelief. apparently they do not have school songs here. weird.

How would the Dutch respond to the Tom and Carol singing of "Ay Ziggy Zoomba" from BGSU? Maybe they might understand "Forward Falcons" better?

I suppose they would take it just about as well as a quick, rousing rendition of "Io Triumphe!".
