Lammetjes! (2009 edition)

It's not here yet, but spring is on its way. There are shoots of crocuses, daffodils, tulips and hyacinths coming up in the back yard. More importantly, on a walk with Aldus and Maui past the schaapskooi last Friday we discovered...LAMMETJES! Oh squee, how I love the lammetjes!

There were two little two-day old lambs in a pen near the barn door with their mother, one of which I got to pet! (Aldus wasn't too keen. Maui was tied up far away.) And a handful of three-week old lambs were running around with the bigger sheep inside and behind the barn.

Of course I dragged Charles back with us the next day for another look and some photos. Behold, the three-day old lambs! (Yes, that wooly thing that they like to stand on is their mother.)

We also noticed a few lambs (probably also three-weekers) out in a pasture between Diever and Dwingeloo. It won't be long before they're all over the place, and I won't be able to drive anywhere without stopping to laugh and take photos.

"San Toki!"

Charles's mom started teaching Aldus how to dance to "San Toki" over the Christmas holiday. He's gotten hooked on having us sing it to him (when we're not singing "The Victors," that is). And now he's starting to sing it for himself! He doesn't quite have the words right yet, but we can tell he's starting to put it together.

Back to the needles!

Yes, I fear we've already begun neglecting the second-born before it's even born. I don't have the time or energy to worry over every little aspect of this pregnancy like I did with my first. I think that's pretty common for a second pregnancy, especially with a toddler in tow. But we haven't even taken a single belly photo, and I'm already 21 weeks along. (Or is it 22? I've lost track. See what I mean?!? I couldn't even tell you how far along I am in plain old months.)

I think, though, at the very least, I ought to knit something for the baby. I tried picking up a little sweater project that I'd started a long time ago for a friend, but I'm not terribly impressed with my work. So instead I picked out what looks to be a relatively easy blanket pattern from a Debbie Bliss baby knits for beginners book, and found a great little yarn store yesterday, 't Ryahuis, that's not too far away. (Nice. 30 miles is now "not too far away". At least I didn't have to go to Groningen.)

The pattern is sort of a patchwork of about ten or eleven squares of each color. I started on my first square last night and could hardly put it down to go to bed. I forgot how addictive short rows of garter stitch on a pair of Addi Turbos can be. Woo hoo! Can't wait to show you the finished product.

Hail to the Victors!

Now that we're a relatively safe distance from Michigan's 2008 football season (boo! hiss!) and starting to see headlines about the next one (the other "change we need"?), it seems safe to revisit our old friends back in the Big House.

Somehow we've gotten Aldus completely hooked on "The Victors." Not only do we watch or listen to the following video on youtube ... oh ... some 50 GAZILLION TIMES A DAY because Aldus is continually begging "Hail?" and "Again?", but we also know all the words. Did you know there are whole sections that they don't sing in the stadium?
