We're back in Michigan. It's hotter than hell and about to rain, which means it's also Art Fair. (Or as one friend likes to say, "It's not art and it's not fair.")
In spite of there being an SUV in every driveway, a giganto-sized ice cream in the hands of every child at the local Cold Stone Creamery, and people complaining about the cost of gas that's still three times cheaper than it is in Europe, it really is good to be back here. Why? Let me begin to count the ways:
- girlfriends
- ...who speak English
- drip coffee
- drug stores open later than 6pm so you can buy cough syrup when you actually need it
- cough syrup
- clean, free public restrooms
- ...with baby changing tables
- Michigan Theater
- bibimbap on every corner*
*Okay, there really isn't bibimbap on every corner. But in a small-ish city with at least nine restaurants serving it, there might as well be one on every corner.
Don't even get me started on my prodigal daughter's return to Eddie Bauer. I may start waxing poetic.
Its good to have you here, in the USA. It may be hot, but by January it will be cold. By the end of your visit, your list will have grown, and we are anxious to add some NC and SC people, places, and things to your list.

Hope you're having a great time! I'm certainly envious of your trip, and wish I could be there. Alas, I don't think it's in the cards.... :( Give me a call if you have a chance while you're in the States!

Do not go nuts in Eddie Bauer. The quality of their clothes has fallen A LOT in the last year or so. The big problem I had was shrinkage. I swear the jeans and shirts fit when I tried them on in the store, but after two or three washings (in cold water, even) they were far too small.

One thing you missed: The Yun family is a great thing about Michigan! You're at a disadvantage because you're always here when you're here, so you don't know the difference. We SO enjoyed dinner. Brian said: "I love all three of that cute family."
