I admit that when we found out we were going to have a baby over here, away from friends and family, in a culture where there's no tradition of baby showers, I was nervous about the prospect of planning and preparing for a baby - and shopping for a baby. People kept telling me, "Don't worry about buying clothes. You'll receive lots of clothes!" I figured that would be true back home, but not here so far away from everyone. I figured we'd be on our own for buying everything. Boy was I wrong! Another boxful of baby gifts arrived Friday!
I ran a tally this afternoon:
- 51 onesies / rompers
- 12 sleepers / footed crawlers
- 8 pairs of pants
- 6 undershirts / t-shirts
- 1 sweater
- 4 sleeping gowns / sleep sacs
- 7 hats
- 18 pairs socks
- 4 pairs scratch mittens
- 10 bibs
- 11 receiving blankets (flannel, waffle-knit or jersey-knit)
- 5 blankets (quilted, knit or otherwise warm & fuzzy)
- 1 swaddling thingy
- 4 bath capes
People keep saying that we'll be doing a lot more laundry with the baby. But I think that if this keeps up, we'll NEVER have to do laundry for the baby. We'll just keep pulling new, clean clothes from an infinite supply in the closet!
This post was interrupted by dinner and written while listening to:
- Simon & Garfunkle - "Homeward Bound" (live in Central Park)
- The Eurythmics - "Missionary Man"
- The Police - "Every Breath You Take"
- The Smiths - "Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want"
- New Order - "Temptation"
- Erasure - "Voulez-Vous"
Nice music.
Not exactly 'klompendans'.
