We're headed back to the States for the holidays! Originally we hadn't planned on going back within the first year, but circumstances being what they are, I really wanted to go back and see people before the baby comes. So then we thought maybe we'd go in January or February, but Charles will be knee-deep in project management hell at that point and probably wouldn't be able to make the trip with me. That's no good, so we've booked our flights to spend Christmas with our families in North Carolina. Charles has a long-layover in Detroit before he returns early without me, and I'm sticking around Ann Arbor through New Year's.
Yay! I'm so excited!
So to start getting into the Christmas spirit, I went looking for my favorite Christmas album, Hi-Fidelity Holiday. It was produced by Starbucks back in 1998, and we normally wouldn't buy Starbucks CDs, but this one had "Winter Wonderland" by the Cocteau Twins on it. Turns out it's got some other really outstanding gems, particularly Robbie Robertson's "Christmas Must Be Tonight," Keb Mo's "Jingle Bell Jamboree," Peggy Lee's "I Like A Sleigh Ride" and Dean Martin's "Baby, It's Cold Outside." I looked on my iPod, through iTunes and the one random CD sleeve we brought with us. No luck. It looks like we never burned it. :(
So I've gone through iTunes looking up all the different songs individually. I'm still missing some, including that great Robbie Robertson piece. But I did add George Michael's "Last Christmas" and should still be able to generate some of the same warm, fuzzy feelings while I take Maui out for a walk.
I hope you have a WONDERFUL time at "home" for the holidays. I'm sad that we won't be able to see each other, but hopefully my travels can take me to the Netherlands soon!
