The following is an email Charles sent to Erik. I thought it was amusing - !and informative! - and he's letting me share it. To preface, Erik and Julie brought with them a small, remote-control plane that required a little more practice to fly than we expected.
Charles writes:
so, i took the airplane out to the field by the molen in the village.
a few funny items...1) took dog with me. he was totally unimpressed with the plane. he
literally sat for a bit, watching, then lay down and fell asleep.
grrr.2) on the first run with the plane, it did a bit of a krazy fly
out/away from me then "oh no its heading for my brain!" I ducked and
when I spun around, i realized that there was a guy standing behind me
who was also dodging the plane. ha!3) guy from above, walked up and in english (because only an american
would take a toy plane out by the mill...), "hello, where is the
battery stored on the plane?" We chatted for a bit and I introduced
myself as Charles in Dutch. He smiled, laughed and said, "I know." I
was a bit puzzled, so he immediately followed up with, "Diever is a
*very* small town. We *all* know who you are." And so it begins...4) flew the plan for a bit. I am almost confident enough that i can
fly it around the molen full circle without losing it/crashing it.
However, if I fail, consequences/embarassment level is high. So for
the moment, I'm sticking to flying around the football field. It is
surprisingly relaxing (aside from the buzzing noise of the rotors).
Thanks again for the toyI run away now to earn my paycheck...
That picture of Maui in the wooden shoes is *adorable*. Also, I have copied the phrase "Zonder kimchi geen smaak!" for future use. ;)
